I've been cutting hair since the 9th grade. It was a little rough at the beginning, but I've gotten better over the years. I keep threatening to get my barber's license, but that requires a lot of time. In the meantime I cut my brothers' and friends' hair in exchange for beer, and on rare occasions, a cigar. Actually, the haircut is just an excuse to hang out and have a beer with a bud (please don't tell their ladies). So if you are in the Bay Area and need a haircut, I could use some more beer...
I bought this chair when I was 19 from a beauty supply store. Most of the chairs were $300 plus, but they had a few of these outside in the yard. I should have bought a couple, since I paid $50 for it and you can't find this pattern anymore :). It was a good conversation starter in college.
If you are looking for a professional clipper, try Clippersrus.com. If you do like your hair a little longer, but you want to cut it yourself, try the Flowbee as it works pretty well. That's right, I own a Flowbee and I've used it before. I hooked a shop-vac to it and it pulls the hair up, cuts it, and goes into the vacuum. I would advise against using the shop-vac as it uses too much power and tends to pull some of the hairs out instead of cutting them; no pain no gain.

Brett, this is hilarious! I know i'm a girl and probably not the blog reader you are expecting...but, it's true...i too cut hair for beer!! ...and yes, I also think it's a pretty fair trade. :)
