Every year my buddies take a trip somewhere for March Madness. For those who are unacquainted with March Madness, it is the NCAA division 1 men's basketball tournament. This is probably the biggest sporting event of the year in the US. I used to skip class in high school to watch the games and now every March I adjust my work schedule.
Instead of watching one game at a buddy's house, it makes more sense to take a trip with a bunch of buddies and watch as many games as we can in a weekend. The tradition began in Reno about 10 years ago, but it got a little old, so the past few years we have been going to the cabin. This year the consensus was to go back to Reno. We had a lot of fun. Reno is pretty cool because it is way cheaper than Vegas. Drinks in Vegas cost $10 + but in Reno they are a couple dollars.
Besides watching games and drinking, we hit the craps table, went bowling, rode go-carts, did some free-fall swing ride, and ate Awful-Awful burgers at The Nugget (one of the best burgers ever plus over 1 lb of fries!). Reno can get depressing very quickly in those smoke infested casinos, so the trick is to take advantage of the outdoor activities like we did. Of course, we could have gone boarding on the slopes, rode ATVs, gone golfing, or shot things in the desert, but this trip was a little more low-key. It was the perfect balance of indulgence and relaxation.
One year I would like to take the snow train from San Jose to Reno. It is a train ride through the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Maybe next year if I have the budget...
Here is a video of the ride my brother Chris and I did together. A 180 ft drop from the top to the bottom. It was a good rush. Tilt your head to the left...
