Welding seems intimidating since it requires using a tool which can heat, melt and bond two pieces of metal together. I remember long ago in an 8th grade metal class learning how to weld. While it was just 8th grade, learning some of the basics made me more comfortable doing it two decades later. An instruction manual for a welder would be enough guidance to get started welding. As with many things in life, with a little research, reading, and 'trial by error' one can do almost anything. Whether it is welding, cooking, building, repairing, etc., try it on your own. I may not be great at everything I try to do, but I'm able to do a lot. I like the sense of accomplishment after completing something new, doing something with my own hands, and saving money by not having to hire someone.

As with most projects, my son likes to get involved. I know he just wants to be with me, but over time he will learn more and more how to work with his hands.
The reason I had to weld is because I'm trying to finish a project truck I started too long ago. I cut out some small pieces of rusted metal in the body and needed to patch them. I didn't do an awesome job, but I got it done.
Before
After spot weld
All finished
